Kathryn Bigelow knocked it out of the park with The Hurt Locker. I totally get why she won Best Director at the 82nd Academy Awards. That year, The Hurt Locker also won Best Picture, Best Original Script and Best Film Editing. I totally get why the film won those awards as well. The Hurt Locker is not an obvious beauty. The Dark Knight is an obvious beauty. Titanic is an obvious beauty. The Hurt Locker is Melissa Juratowitch from Cycle 8 of Australia's Next Top Model, an uncommon gem. The Hurt Locker is a masterpiece, but only to those who can appreciate a film past the plot, the actions and the special effects.
