Why is this film so poorly rated? It's got a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I was curious about the Rotten Tomatoes scores for the other films on the list. I looked them up. The Girl on the Train was the lowest scored film. 50 First Dates came in second with a 45% score. I guess that's expected for an Adam Sandler film. I love 50 First Dates. It's my favorite rom-com. Basic Instincts came in third with a 56% score. Too erotic? The Readers came in fourth with a 63% score. The Reader is misunderstood.

It's a coming-of-age film, a case study about how a boy's affair with an older woman affected his life. Darren Aronofsky's mother! was fifth with a 68% score. I always knew critics' responses to mother! were divisive. The low score does not surprise me. What is unexpected is it beat out all the aforementioned films. American Psycho rounds out all the films on the list with score under 70%. That's in the same category as Basic Instincts. Some prude probably found it too graphic. Only 14 of the 86 films had Rotten Tomatoes score less than 80%.
