I was watching Scary Movie. Non sensical comedy does exist in western movies. Scary Movie humor is Hong Kong/ Stephen Chow comedy film humor.

American Oscars is so serious. They would never nominate, let alone give the highest honor, to a film like Shaolin Soccer. The Oscars has a type and the type is not comedy. Good comedy acting is just as challenging as drama acting. Not everyone can do what The Office cast does. Who says screaming and crying is superior than making people laugh? All in all, good comedy acting/ films deserve the same chance for recognition as drama films.

When I started this list, I used the Oscars as a guide for movies to watch. It got boring. It's another war movie. Another dreadfully mundane plot with fancy cinematography. It's that same formula over and over again. When you look at other countries' Oscars equivalence, here, we have Hong Kong celebrating an outlandish comedy sports film. Horror/ thriller is big in South Korea, another genre that's neglected by the Oscars. In other countries, films of all genres get equal shots at greatness. But that's not the case with the American Oscars.

There are obvious similarities between Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. For starters, both are kung fu films. I could see Stephen Chow coming up with the idea for Kung Fu Hustle while making Shaolin Soccer. Both films felt unpolished. That's not atypical for a Stephen Chow film. Specifically with Shaolin Soccer, some scenes felt extra/ didn't contribute to the story. Some transitions between scenes were abrupt. Many special effects were "obvious". And so on.

All in all, a fun movie. Quick paced. Easy to digest.
