Seven does not feel like a 1995 film. It's ahead of its time. The visual is very modern. The film is similar to Memories of Murder, down to casting a well known actor for the role of the serial killer, and not revealing his face until the near-end of the film. Memories of Murder's got more style though. David Fincher tried, but just couldn't quite match the creativity of Bong Joon Ho. South Korean directors are masters at making thriller films.
Brad Pitt gave a very Brad Pitt performance. That emotional scene near the end of the film was his best, a showcase of what he's capable of. I love the use of rain in the film. The city the film set in reminded me of Gotham. Seven's ending is said to be one of the greatest movie plot twists of all time. Is it though? I half guessed the ending. It was so obvious. Let's not be dramatic and use superlatives so liberally. There are better plot twists out there. Overall, the film was complete. It was grounded. From the start, it knew exatcly what it wanted to be.
