Kung Fu Hustle is a very Hong Kong film. And a very Stephen Chow film. It's got that signature non-sensical Hong Kong/ Stephen Chow comedy element. Hong Kong comedy films are not for everyone. I love Hong Kong style comedy. But I can see someone not finding that style of comedy funny.

Kung Fu Hustle isn't the most polished of films. There are holes in the plot that I've come to forgive. As of many Stephen Chow films, you can't think too hard into the details. Logic loosely exists. What I cannot forgive is the visual. I didn't like that it was so obvious that the film was shot on a set. It's not a play. That really cheapened the film for me. Last but not least, some of the special effects were obvious.

On the acting front, newcomer Huang Sheng-yi was the weakest link.
