I saw Happy Death Day when it came out back in 2017. I saw it again recently on YouTube. The film withstood the test of time and rewatch. The film was equally entertaining eight years later and the second time around.
This is probably the "smallest" film on the list. The director and the cast are not well known. It's got a smaller budget. It did make a lot of money. So a lot of people have seen it. To the American audience, it may be more well known than some of the international films on the list. Happy Death Day, however, is probably less known in America than the international films in their respective country.
Happy Death Day is fun. Many filmmakers try too hard to be artsy-fartsy, cerebral, shocking and neglect one of films' most important purpose, entertainment. Happy Death Day entertained. It's the kind of film you watch with your hallmates in college in a dorm room on a Friday night in. It's the kind of film you recommend to and watch with your teenage children on Halloween. It's the kind of film you watch on your red eye flight to your next vacation destination.
I liked everyone's performance, except the Asian guy. Happy Death Day 2U, the sequel, was not good.
