I remember seeing the trailer for 50 First Dates, way back in the day. My first thought was: this is the same plot as Why Me, Sweetie?!, a 2003 Hong Kong film. Why Me, Sweetie?!'s Wikipedia page says it inspired 50 First Dates. 50 First Dates Wikipedia page does not mention Why Me, Sweetie?! I no longer remember Why Me, Sweetie?!'s plot. Bottom line is, cite your sources. Give credit where credit is due.
Adam Sandler cannot help for once not be Adam Sandler. I don't like Adam Sandler's humor. Many of his jokes are immature and unfunny. They take away from the sweetness of the film. The film was not great before Drew Barrymore showed up. Thank God Drew was there to balance out Adam's nonsense. There are many time loop films. Happy Death Day, Source Code, Groundhog Day, to name a few. 50 First Dates is not a time loop film, in the traditional sense. It's a time loop-ish film. It uses a character with short term memory loss, who unknowingly lives the same day over and over again, as the mechanism to achieve that time loop. I thought that was really creative. Though I doubt that was intended. 50 First Dates is a ray of Hawaiian sunshine. It warms my heart, makes me feel like I'm in love. It's textbook romance, the chick-flickest of chick-flick. A story about a man who loves a woman so much, he makes her fall in love every day. C'mon, who doesn't want that? And the film is set in Hawaii. Chef's kiss. Apr 28, 25. |
